Phelan Construction had to fight off fierce competition during the tender stage in order to secure the second phase of the Knowledge Gateway development at the University of Essex Wivenhoe Campus. The new two storey office building is to be of steel frame construction with piled foundations and a block work and rendered facade. The £1.1m project is scheduled to complete in June 2016 following a 26 week build. Phelan Construction Commercial Director and Head of Special Projects Neil Coy said "We are over the moon to have won this contract as we were up against some very tough competition including the contractor who build phase 1. This following on from our being awarded the University Framework contract earlier in 2015 demonstrates our commitment to providing our customers with the best value for money and service that we possibly can even after being incumbent on site for the past 7 years."
